Panda Bears are huge, their babies are insanely small. They usually give birth between 95 and 160 days after mating. Although female panda bears normally bear two children, normally only one is able to survive. Giant panda cubs may stay with their mothers for up to three years before striking out on their own. This means a wild female, at best, can produce young only every other year; in her lifetime, she may successfully raise only five to eight cubs. The giant pandas’ naturally slow breeding rate prevents a population from recovering quickly from illegal hunting, habitat loss, and other human-related causes of mortality.

That’s part of the reasons Panda Bears become endangered species. If you are interested in understanding how to improve the breeding of endangered wildlife animals, share this article and like our facebook page:

( Yuan Yuan gave birth to a female cub on 5:10 am August 23, 2012 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Yuan Yuan was born on August 1, 2003. She is docile and displays very strong maternal instinct. Her mother is Bing Bing and her father is Kobi. In total, she gave birth to 3 litters with 4 cubs, and 4 survived. This spring, Yuan Yuan and Yong Yong naturally mated. Since the first day of this month, Yuan Yuan decreased her feed consumption, which lasts for more than 24 days. She became increasingly restless on August 22. Her water broke on 1:20 am, August 25 and she delivered a female cub on 5:10 am. The cub weighed 137 grams. Both Yuan Yuan and her cub are in good health. :) )
